Power Supply Improves with Increased Local Gas Use, Says Power Division

Power Division

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division (PD) has reported an improvement in electricity generation, attributing the progress to enhanced supply of local gas to power plants and stable grid conditions.

In a statement, the PD said hydropower generation reached 6,000MW during peak hours, against a total installed capacity of 11,500MW. Improved water flows, combined with increased local gas availability, helped boost overall generation and enabled the transmission of an additional 100MW to central regions.

The spokesperson noted that around 500MW was successfully transmitted from the southern grid, contributing to improved system stability. However, limited load management—ranging from 25 minutes to one hour—was still observed during peak hours.

Due to global LNG shortages, power plants with a combined capacity of 5,000MW remain offline. The PD expressed optimism that improved LNG supply and increased water releases would help eliminate nighttime shortfalls in the coming days.
